The Francis Martin branch of The New York Public Library is named for the distinguished Bronx judge (1879–1947), who served as the first district attorney of Bronx County.

The branch, which is air-conditioned and fully accessible to people in wheelchairs, first opened on December 18, 1957. In 2008, a renovation transformed the second floor into a spacious, sunny area that houses the children’s collection. The first floor features adult and young adult collections for borrowing, as well as an extensive reference section.

Information About Environmental Remediation Projects in Your Community

Brownfields are properties where redevelopment is complicated by actual or suspected environmental contamination from past land usage. Because of New York City's long industrial history, brownfields are found in areas throughout the five boroughs. The New York City Office of Environmental Remediation offers programs that encourage environmental investigation of lightly-to-moderately contaminated sites, and that oversee clean up appropriate to a site's new end use.
